Stress is an inevitable part of our lives – we stress and worry about jobs, money, relationships, health or parents. That doesn’t mean we should ignore it and pretend it doesn’t exist. Too much untreated stress will take control of our lives, can cause serious health problems, both physically and mentally.
Draw and color
You have certainly seen in bookstores that there are numerous coloring books for adults with various models, geometric figures, plants, flowers, mandalas and more. The first step is to choose such a book. It doesn’t have to be very expensive. Then buy a box of crayons, and when you feel you’re stressed, start painting or drawing as you like. You will not even realize how fast the time will go by doing this simple activity that will remind you of childhood.
Write in a diary
Another way to deal with stress is to write in a diary the things that don’t give you peace. Another approach is to write the things you are grateful for. Gratitude can help you get rid of stress and anxiety by focusing your thoughts on what is positive in your life today. It’s good to keep such a journal, psychologists say, especially if you focus on positive aspects.
Learn to say “no”
Not all sources of stress can be in your control, but you can combat some of them. For example, take control of the parts of your life that you can change and cause stress. One way you can do this is to learn to say NO more often. This rule is especially valid if you noticed that you have accepted more tasks than you can do. It is important to be selective about what you accept and the fact that you are telling NO to things that stress you.
Sign up for a yoga course
Yoga has become a popular method for getting rid of stress and making more movement. Even if there are different styles of yoga, most of them share a common goal: the union between body and mind. Some studies have examined the effect that yoga has on mental health. Research has found that yoga stimulates mood and can be as effective as antidepressants in treating depression and anxiety.
Call a friend
When you feel stressed, take a break to call a friend or your partner and talk about your problems. Sometimes it works if you call your mother, especially if you have a very close relationship with her. Good relationships with friends and loved ones are important to any healthy lifestyle, but remember that they are particularly important especially when you are very stressed. A calming voice, even when you hear it for a minute, helps you see things in another light.
Consider dietary supplements
More supplements encourage the reduction of stress and anxiety. Some of the most used supplements are those based on:
- Melissa officinalis – this plant has been studied for its effects against anxiety;
- Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids – A study showed that Omega-3 fatty acid supplements had a 20% reduction in anxiety symptoms;
- Green Tea – green tea leaves contain many antioxidants (polyphenols) that have many health benefits; green tea reduces stress and anxiety, increasing serotonin levels.
